Biting

Unfortunately, biting is one way a toddler/preschooler expresses themselves.  We will do whatever possible to remedy the situation causing it.  We want the child to understand the seriousness of biting, to the point of stopping the habit.  However, if/when a child bites, we will use the following procedures:

  1. Place our finger over the child's mouth and remind them about making good choices.

  2. Remove the child from other children for a few minutes.

  3. Communicate with parents by phone regarding the problem.

If biting still persists after all of the above, we will, out of concern for our other clients, put the child on two weeks suspension.  If there is no improvement by the end of the period, we will ask that they child be withdrawn.

Complete records of these actions will be placed in the child's file.
